How does Reiki work?
Reiki Practitioners receive training that enables them to conduct this wonderful healing energy through them to you, directly affecting the blockages that you may have.
Once they have received an “attunement” from a Reiki Master, they are able to access this energy for the purpose of healing themselves or others.
The intent for the Reiki energy to flow is all that is needed and what flows through you is not the practitioner’s energy but this “universal life force energy”. Because it is a channeled healing, the Reiki Practitioner’s energies are never depleted. In fact, when giving a treatment, the Reiki Practitioner is healed as well.
This “energy” has actually been captured in Kirlian photographs, like the ones to the right.
Keep it flowing
In may be somewhat difficult to understand but this analogy might help you. Think of watering a garden on a warm summer day. You turn on the tap, pick up the hose and focus the nozzle of the hose towards the garden. You aren’t concerned with the water running out or with the possibility of anything foreign coming in through the sides of the hose. You also do not worry about anything coming back through the nozzle as the water pressure is too strong.
While you want to make sure that all of the garden receives some water, there are usually parts that are in greater need than the rest such as wilted flowers, so you ensure more water is directed there.
The water can be thought of as the Reiki energy. It comes from a source outside of you and seems to have no limit to its availability. The person it comes through is the Reiki Practitioner. The hose is like the purified Reiki channel that is opened with the practitioner. It is very pure and strong and nothing can penetrate it.
Like the water through the nozzle of the hose, the energy flows out the palms of the practitioner’s hands and the recipient’s energy does not flow back to the practitioner.
The Reiki Practitioner can just stay in one place projecting the energy on or towards the person who is receiving it, but typically moves around the body, starting at the recipient’s head (just like watering wilted or favorite flowers first). As we said, the energy will go where it needs to.
Mysterious but it works
While the Reiki fills and surrounds your body with its gentle vibrations, if there are parts that require more balancing of energy (called energy blocks), the Reiki energy will focus more in those places. The potential end result is a balancing of all the energy in your body. In this way, Reiki spreads into emotional, mental and spiritual areas as well.
So, exactly how it works may be a bit mysterious, but all it takes in one session to know that it does indeed work and is available for you to enjoy, experience and benefit from.
