What is Reflexology?
For well over 2,000 years, it’s been known that there are zones and reflexes on different parts of the body which correspond to and are relative to all parts, glands and organs of the entire body.
By having the whole body represented in the feet, reflexology offers a means of treating the body as a whole. This is important because Reflexology allows not only symptoms to be treated, but also the causes of the symptoms.
The Ontario College of Reflexology states that: Reflexology is a focused pressure technique, usually directed at the feet or hands. It is based on the premise that here are zones and reflexes on different parts of the body which correspond to and are relative to all parts, glands and organs of the entire body.
What are the benefits of Reflexology?
When the reflexes are stimulated, the body’s natural electrical energy works along the nervous system to clear any blockages in the corresponding zones. A reflexology session seems to break up deposits (felt as a sandy or gritty area under the skin) which may interfere with this natural flow of the body’s energy.
Manipulating specific reflexes removes stress, activating a parasympathetic response in the body to enable the disharmonies to be released by a physiological change in the body. With stress, removed and circulation improved, the body is allowed to return to a state of homeostasis – the “automatic” process that the body incorporates to bring it back to the “normal” states.
Reflexology does not claim to be a ‘cure-all’ but numerous disorders have been successfully treated by this method. Chronic conditions seem to respond especially well to Reflexology and it has also been know to be effective for: Back and other body pains, Breathing problems, Migraines, Infertility, Arthritis Sleep disorders, Hormonal imbalances, Sports and other injuries, Digestive disorders, Circulatory problems, Stress-related conditions, and so much more.
